This is an original handmade linocut print, Two women lay in the sun in their bathing suits relaxing at the beach. This is part four of the twelve part series exploring The Gower Peninsula, Wales. A coastal region known for its beautiful beaches and the place where the artist lives.
This print is hand relieved from a hand-carved linoleum block. This process starts by carving a design in reverse with carving knives onto a lino block, then the artist very finely inks the block with a roller and then, using an Etching press I relieve the image onto the paper.
The paper is medium-weight premium quality Royal white Zerkall printmaking paper. It is acid-free and archival. This means that it is a ' long life' standard, therefore giving the assurance of excellent conservation over time. Linocut printing is a traditional process where the paper picks up some of the stray marks (or "chatter") left intentionally on the block.
Although we typically sell Phillippa Walter's work as mounted prints, this unique picture was previously exhibited in a gallery, so we are lucky enough to have this print in a stunning open-grain black wooden frame. Please scroll through the pictures if you would like to see what the print looked like before it entered it's frame. This print is also available without a frame.
