WORDS FROM THE ARTIST
"The most magical and inaccessible of the Gower Bays, Pwll Du, is for me, the most difficult of the bays to do justice to in a painting. The storm beach, formed from the remains of quarrying in the eighteenth century, means that few of its features can be seen from the seaward side. The Beaufort Arms Pub, reputedly established in 1644, and the old quarrymen's cottages are now homes but thankfully have not been altered too much. The drawings for this composition were obtained from the top of a tree on the opposite side of the bay, but I have to say, I did the painting from the ground."
