Mumbles Headland, as seen from Mumbles Promenade, painted at dawn in winter when the air was very cold and the colours beautiful.
'I was really struck by the pearlescent pastel colours of the sky and sea against the dark silhouette of the headland but also wanted to catch the rich hazy blue as the light began to gently illuminate the village. It is impossible to do justice to the way the the light becomes enriched and alive with humidity as the air begins to warm’.
There are not many paintings that include the Oyster Wharf buildings and in this oil painting the dawn light reflecting off their facades is particularly effective.
