Early Summer, Oxwich Bay Original Sold on Behalf of Arwen Banning
'Painted after a number of sessions painting on the beach at Oxwich on hot days last summer. This is a difficult bay to capture as it's scale and detail such as; the Oxwich Bay Hotel, the wedding marquee and the Coalhouse restaurant, are difficult to compose. I was pleased with the relationship between the trees and flags in the background and how they echo the figures in the foreground.
My favourite areas are the mid distance figures, where the light beaks the figures into warm abstract shapes which still retain an identity. This painting has been reworked since it was first hung in the gallery as I was irritated with aspects of the image which I have now resolved. Hopefully I won't want to keep working on it, but some paintings can become a bit of an obsession and I have to be blindfolded in their presence or I keep wanting to fiddle.'
