Waving goodbye to a member of the team...

Danielle Pursey is off to be pursue her career as a graphic designer. Danielle was responsible for all the leaflets and quirky signs around the gallery, and whilst we will really miss her, we are delighted that she has this brilliant opportunity. She will be hard to replace, but I have been really heartened by the response to our advert for her successor.

We have been spoilt for choice with our applicants and over the course of the interviews we have met so many lovely and interesting people. I wish I had ten vacancies to fill. Of course in an interview applicants are obliged to be complimentary, but we have found a genuine regard for the gallery and what we are trying to do.

Challenges of running the gallery...

The most interesting and often frustrating part of running the gallery is finding artists and craft people to show their work. More and more of our customers are regulars whom we look forward to seeing. We have to ensure that we have new work to make their visit a worthwhile experience. However artists are sometimes tricky to deal with. If they are in high demand you have to wait a long time for their work. Some artists and makers aren’t very prolific so you can find an artist whose work is a big hit with our visitors and then we can’t get any more of it. We visit a lot of craft fairs and exhibitions looking for new work. I can’t complain about this part of the job apart from the miles spent behind a tractor (a lot of these events are in the most rural parts of Wales). There are lot of art trails that go on around the country and it’s time consuming and sometimes disappointing, but when you see the wonderful work they agree to show in the gallery, it’s all worthwhile.

Not gone forever...

So we are saying goodbye to Danielle, but we are not losing her as an artist. Her beautiful Raku Jewellery will still be in the gallery and we are hoping that her new career will give her more time to create Raku ceramic work at the weekend. So watch this space for more Pursey pieces, I can’t wait!
